When buying a video camera, things you should look out for:
0. NEVER TRUST A SALESMAN!.. Do your own research first.
1. Video quality. (clarity, colour etc)
2. Photo quality (clarity, colour etc)
3. Image stabilization. This means less shaky video. Whats the point of taking a video when the video shakes too much and is not smooth.
There are two types of image stabilization – Electronic or Optical. The optical is the best, so make sure you have the optical stabilization. Make sure it works by reading reviews or watching a test video in youtube.
4. Battery life
5. Recording time. How many hours can you record before the battery is dead or your memory card is full ?
6. Camera Zoom. There are two types of zoom – digital or optical. Get the optical zoom at all cost, if you want real zooming and clear pictures.
7. Warranty. How many years warranty ?
8. Many cameras perform poorly at low light condition or at night. Can your camera take quality videos/ pictures at night ?
9. Do you want a weatherproof camera or a non-weatherproof camera ?
10. Camera price range ?
11. Can you add-in more memory to the camera ?
12. Audio quality ? How good is the mic ?

Don’t rush and buy a camcorder. If you are short of cash, it is better you wait, save more money and buy a good camcorder.
In short, buy a camcorder that has good video, sound & photo quality, good image stabilization, good zooming, good recording time and good warranty.
