Well, there is …
Well, there is Nikon Camera Control Pro 2.0 that you can hook your D3000 to the computer so the program can do time lapses for you from your camera but you would need a laptop access to make it work.
Truthfully speaking, we do find this to be fun because you will need to lug your laptop everywhere and most of laptops nowadays do not have a long battery life to make the time lapse last longer.
