How do I know what model of Digital SLR camera to buy?

I’m going to get a digital slr camera for my birthday, but there are so many different models! I want a Nikon, and it has to have recording and picture options, good quality, manual focusing, ect. Basically the main functions of SLR cameras. I don’t want it to be too expensive, but also not so inexpensive that there is poor quality or not enough features. I take some photography and I would like to use it for that. Thanks for your help!

Good question. Depending on your level of comfort NIKON has several choices that do both photo and video capture. If you are newer to dslr then a good option might be the NIKON d3100. Does 1080p video with a nice sensor for image capture. While it affords the ahooter with manual capabilities its also equipped with preset modes that you might find helpful.
I personally have the NIKON d300 and bought a NIKON d7000 for my girlfriend. NIKON has an excellent range of glass to select from. Odds are however if you get the kit lens it will do everything you need. As your skills improve you can opt to upgrade glass for better quality images based on composition.

My boyfriend is really getting into photography and really wants a camera, but I don’t know what to get him. I know he wants a Nikon digital slr, with interchangeable lenses, but I’m just not sure what the best camera for the money is. I’m clueless about this stuff. Thanks for your help!

What is a good cheap digital SLR camera for a beginner?

I have $200 for a nice, cheap SLR camera. I want it to be digital and easy to figure out how to use because I am a beginner photographer. I just need it for taking photos of people and clothing for my hand made clothing projects. It doesn’t need to have any crazy settings or a perfect lens. What kind of camera would you suggest? And where would I find one for my price range? Thanks!

Digital SLR sensors’s Explained

There are a few different sensor sizes out there today. You have Full Frame and Cropped Sensors and now Four Thirds which I did not speak about in this video.

On the Nikon end you have FX and DX. FX is a full frame sensor based on a 35mm size and DX is a cropped sensor based on a 24mm or APS size.

There are advantages and perceived disadvantages to both. With Full Frame you get much better Hi-ISO capability but it is much more expensive.

DX is a small sensor but makes your longer lenses act like they have more power. You multiply any lens you put on the camera by 1.5X to determine its 35mm equivalent. The downside is you need to purchase special ultra wide lenses to capture really wide angle images on DX. Another disadvantage to DX is you will not want to use those lenses on a Full Frame camera. So it becomes a dilemma on weather not to purchase a lot of DX lenses or not.

On the Canon side you have three sensor sizes. Full Frame, 1.3x magnification in their sports cameras and APS-C which is 1.6x magnification. On the canon side. Any lens that you place on the APS-C sensor you will multiply by 1.6x to get the 35mm equivalent. As in the Nikon the larger the sensor the better the Hi-ISO capability the camera will be. Unlike Nikon Canon utilizes a 1.3x cropped sensor int heir high end sports camera. Sports photographers like having their longer glass have more reach.

The cameras that have Full Frame sensors will be more expensive because they are more costly to manufacture. They are generally put into higher end bodies that are packed with more features.

Should you go Full Frame or Cropped sensor? That all depends on the type of work you will be doing and your budget.

What should I be aware of when buying my first digital slr camera?

i’ve been considering photography as a new hobby, i’m not sure how to start. i heard the cannon 7d is a good camera as well as the rebel. i want something simple. can you give me a list of what to pay attention to and watch out for, since im buying one off of craigslist? any reccommendations for a digital slr camera would be a big help. anything you have as for begginner info would be a big help! If you are going to seriously pursue photography as a hobby you need to get a DSLR and not a bridge camera (which is really a glorified point-and-shot). Most of the low end ($500-$800) entry level DSLR camera kits (body and zoom lens) are going to meet your needs. They will give you a good flexibility to learn what you need to know. In the long run learning some of the principals of photography and how to handle whatever camera you are using (framing, light, depth-of-field, subjects etc.) is going to be more important than the specific camera you end up choosing. I would go for a name-brand camera like Canon, Olympus, Nikon, Pentax etc over off-brands that might be a little less expensive, but you are likely to run into road-blocks with.

Photography is a fun hobby, and whatever you decide on I hope you will have as much FUN with it as I do. Good luck….

I’m looking for a really goog high quality digital slr camera, I hear that Nikon is better than cannon but Im really not sure.
im not looking for something too big or too expensive, more like a middle range slr.

Depending on your budget, you should try Nikon D3100/ D5100.. if needed you can go in for 18-105 lens or a 55-200mm lens along with it..

Nikon is much better than Canon … Any day
