    Use the M mode and …
    Use the M mode and set your shutter speed to bulb. Hold the exposure until you capture some lightning.

    I just prefer …
    I just prefer aperture priority mode and manual. in programmed mode the aperture always changes, I like to have complete control over the aperture or both the aperture and shutter speed.

    I have had my NikonD70 for about three years but have only recently decided to take photography more seriously. i.e. a possible carreer i am trying to learn all of the setting but it’s very difficult for me. if anyone knows of any online forums on th D70 i’d love to hear THanks!!

    as should all. i only use auto and those other features when i havnt setup my camera to compensate for the lighting and such, and i need to get a shot befor its gone forever
